Comet Ping Pong Tries to Survive With Takeout Only Service
WASHINGTON, DC- APRIL 22:
(L) James Alefantis, the owner of Comet Ping Pong restaurant in Washington, D.C. on April 22, 2020. Alefantis is right behind (R) regular customer Jake Tapper of CNN who has just picked up his order. Comet Ping Pong is a sit-down pizza restaurant which would normally have a very busy dining room. Alefantis has had to gear his restaurant to be safe in the Coronavirus era and become a takeout only establishment. He is trying to strike a balance between upbeat and appropriately somber in the design of the place which is now takeout only. Alefantis has rearranged continuously to meet health guidelines and maximize efficiency by using the ping pong themed tables where folks once dined as staging area to get the orders out efficiently.
