Foto de stock de Uppland Runic Inscription 53
The Uppland Runic Inscription 53, an ancient Viking runestone located at the intersection of Prästgatan and Kåkbrinken streets in Stockholm’s old town, Sweden. Carved in the Uppland style, it features a serpent-like body with decorative winding loops. The inscription, partially translated, reads: “Torsten and Frögunn had the stone erected after their son.” Unfortunately, the son’s name has been lost to time. Frögunn, the female name mentioned, provides a clue to the text’s origin as a known pagan name. Historically, this runestone likely predates the city of Stockholm itself.
It stands , quietly bearing witness to centuries of history. Interestingly, it is part of a trio of runestones found in the old town. Another, known as “U 274,” was originally discovered in a wall and now resides in the Museum of Medieval Stockholm. The third stone, found in a church stairway, has unfortunately vanished from history.
